MINDFUL SELF-COMPASSION

An 8-week course to cultivate the skill of self-compassion

What is MSC?

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported, 8-week training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. Based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care, and understanding.

The three key components of self-compassion are self-kindness, a sense of common humanity, and balanced, mindful awareness. Together they comprise a state of warm-hearted, connected presence.

Self-compassion can be learned by anyone, even those who didn't receive enough affection in childhood or who feel uncomfortable when they are good to themselves. It's a courageous attitude that stands up to harm, including the harm that we unwittingly inflict on ourselves through self-criticism, self-isolation, or self-absorption. Self-compassion provides emotional strength and resilience, allowing us to admit our shortcomings, motivate ourselves with kindness, forgive ourselves when needed, relate wholeheartedly to others, and be more authentically ourselves.

Rapidly expanding research demonstrates that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being, less anxiety, depression, and stress, maintenance of healthy habits, and satisfying personal relationships.

“A moment of self-compassion can change your entire day. A string of such moments can change the course of your life.”

— Christopher Germer Ph.D.

What Past Attendees Are Saying

“Lucy was the facilitator for the Mindful Self-Compassion course I took, as well as numerous meditation groups and retreats I have attended. You would be hard-pressed to find anyone that is more trustworthy and dedicated to serving others. Lucy radiates a spirit of kindness and well-being that shine on those she works with. She is a healer and it has been a privilege to learn so much from her.”

— Lori S.

“Life-changing sounds cliché, but taking mindfulness courses from Lucy truly was. Her instruction and practices have changed the way I handle stress both professionally and personally. As a health professional, I often felt overwhelmed and fatigued by the demands of the workload and responsibilities. The course provided tools and resources to help manage that. I also love the fact that the course is evidence-based. Most of all, Lucy provides a non-judgmental, supportive environment that sets the experience apart. I had read about mindfulness, but taking the course really helped me integrate it into my life. Highly recommend!!”

— Sue P.

“Lucy's direction and training on Mindful Meditation techniques had a profound impact on my life. I was programmed by the corporate world to produce. More, more, more to the detriment of health and wellness. Lucy, through MM, rewired my mind to appreciate and value the present. Enjoy life, feel gratitude for what is, and recognize negative thoughts and set them aside. I am grateful to Lucy for this new way of seeing the world. It was truly life-changing.”

MEET YOUR FACILITATOR

Hi there, I’m Lucy,

I had the opportunity to take the 8-week Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) course and complete MSC teacher training with the developers of this amazing program; Drs. Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer. Becoming aware of how harsh I could be toward myself was eye-opening! This insight helped me realize that I was experiencing a very real although untrue feeling of inadequacy that I had internalized from societal messages. Fortunately, MSC provided me with heartwarming tools that I could use to free myself from feeling chronically “not enough”. It has helped me become more secure in my life both personally and professionally. If you’re interested, I’d love to share this course with you!
