In October, Awakening Health will be leading two Mindful Body Scan meditations at the Lupus Alliance of Michigan’s Make a Change 4 Lupus Symposium. This daylong conference is intended for those with Lupus as well as their family and supporters and will be held at Laurel Manor, 39000 Schoolcraft, Livonia from 10 am – 3 pm on October 22.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

8 Week Class – 2 hours /wk plus 6 hour retreat

Learn Mindfulness, a way of relating directly to the events in your life, of consciously and systematically working through challenging experiences. Develop healthy and positive approaches to handling stressful events, whether they are physical or emotional. By enrolling, you will:

  • Cope more effectively with short and long-term stresses
  • Increase your ability to relax
  • Achieve lasting decreases in your physical and psychological symptoms

Introduction to Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

1 ½ hours

You can learn how to face, understand and work with stress, pain, and the challenges of the 21st century, in a healthy and productive way.  Explore how the ancient practice of Mindfulness meditation can restore balance and reduce stress in your life.  Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is taught at over 240 clinics worldwide, as interest in mind-body and integrative medicine approaches grows and evidence about the potential healing power of the mind expands.

The Power of Stillness – Mindfulness in Daily Life

1 ½ hours

Learn how Mindfulness meditation can unlock your innate powers of healing and wellbeing in this experiential evening.  You will leave with 2 practical tools for reducing stress and creating peace of mind.

Calming the Anxious Mind – Mindful Yoga

1 ½ hours

Reconnecting with your body, through the practice of gentle mindful yoga, can be an antidote to your anxious mind.  This class is appropriate for everyone, even those who have never done yoga or may have physical challenges.  Bring a yoga mat or large towel.

Ending the Suffering – Mindfulness and Pain Management

1 ½ hours

Mindfulness is a powerful means for managing physical and emotional pain and improving your quality of life.  Begin learning how to connect with your own strength and resources for reducing pain levels and enhancing your ability to cope with pain that may not go away.

Exploring Mindfulness Meditation Practice

Three 1 ½ hour classes or a 5 hour workshop

Join us to learn four meditative practices and learn how to relax, reduce the effects of stress in your life, manage emotional and physical pain, and improve the quality of your life.  Participants will experience formal and informal mindfulness practices, begin to cultivate inner calmness and learn about the connections between stress and health.  If you are feeling that something is missing in your life, want to reduce anxiety or just want to take some time for yourself, you don’t want to miss this class!
